Inspiring an appreciation for existing resources, while fostering a sustainable and environmentally-conscious urban environment.
Projekt Fußplatten Berlin is an endeavor which focuses on the transformation of underutilized construction materials, particularly fußplatten, throughout Berlin's urban landscape. Through architectural installations, mapping data, and a comprehensive fußplatten catalog, the project aims to challenge the perceived disconnect between humanity and nature in urban environments while celebrating local heritage and enhancing livability.
The project exists as a call to interact with and critically redefine the blasé relationship we have with our everyday surroundings, while justifying the utility of spontaneous experimentation in the realms of architecture and engineering.
The project infuses new life into fußplatten; manufactured elements of post-consumer plastics that are conventionally used only for traffic division. At its core, this renewal will depend on discovering alternate methods of joinery between these objects beyond their intended design. Unlike the meticulous planning associated with establishing rigorous engineering standards, this approach focuses on exploring new ideas for assembling fußplatten together without any industry limitations. By incorporating more artistic methods of exploration, design research becomes not only faster and more fruitful but also incredibly exciting.
